Learn to Sail | Level 1
Learn to Race | Level 2

Ages 7-12
Kids with little to no previous sailing experience complete our Learn to Sail 1.  This class is designed to give the sailor a strong fundamental base of sailing skills such as rigging, points of sail, basic boat handling, water safety, and seamanship. The overall goal is to help the sailor get comfortable sailing solo in varying conditions and becoming proficient sailing the Sabot, Optimist, Open Skiff, or CFJ. As the sailor gains more confidence sailing they will advance to Learn to Race – Level 2.

*Sailors can use their own boat or use club boats. We have a Buy/Sell on our website


Wednesdays 4pm - 7pm

March 12th, 19th, 26th
April 2nd, 16th, 23rd, 30th (No session on the 9th due to Spring Break)
May 14th, 21st (No session on the 7th due to Opening Day)

Social Sailing

Ages 10-14
This class is an alternative to our racing pathway. It is for sailors that have completed Learn to Sail and Learn to Race, but are not ready for the full racing/regatta program. This program is also ideal for Opti/Sabot sailors looking to gain experience in CFJ or ILCA but are not yet ready for the commitment of the development team in these classes. This program teaches sailing through fun games (sponge tag, scavenger hunts, relay races) and focuses on overall seamanship. Sailors can stay in this group for as long as they need. The class uses CFJs, Sabots, Open Skiff, Optis, Harbor 20s, and paddle boards. 

*Sailors can use their own boat or use club boats. We have a Sabot Buy/Sell on our website

This program also has the option to attend the LIYC Halloween Regatta in October in Sabot or CFJ and LIYC Spring Koll Regatta in April in Sabot or CFJ. These are great social regattas.
